On Tuesday, the Police CID (Security) Intelligence apprehended a suspected Pakistani spy in Jaisalmer, Rajasthan. The individual, identified as Mahendra Prasad (32), served as the manager of the DRDO Guest House located at the Chandan Field Firing Range.
He is accused of maintaining regular communication with a handler from Pakistani intelligence and leaking sensitive information regarding India’s defense operations.
CID (Security) IG Dr. Vishnukant stated that due to the upcoming Independence Day celebrations, Rajasthan CID Intelligence has been on heightened alert for anti-national and subversive activities.
During this surveillance, information emerged concerning Mahendra Prasad, who was a contractual employee at the DRDO Guest House.
Hailing from Palyun, Almora (Uttarakhand), he was suspected of involvement in espionage activities. Investigations indicated that Prasad was in contact with a Pakistani intelligence agency via social media.
He allegedly provided his handler with information about the movements of DRDO scientists and Indian Army officers visiting the Chandan Field Firing Range for missile and weapon testing. This facility in Jaisalmer is crucial for the testing of strategic defense equipment.
After his arrest, Prasad was subjected to joint interrogation by security agencies, and a comprehensive technical analysis of his mobile phone was conducted.
The investigation validated that he had transmitted sensitive information pertaining to DRDO operations and Indian Army activities to his Pakistani handler.
In light of the evidence, CID Intelligence officially charged Mahendra Prasad with espionage and arrested him.
Authorities are currently investigating the scope of the security breach and whether additional individuals were part of the information network.
This arrest underscores the persistent threat posed by foreign intelligence operations targeting India’s strategic institutions.
Security agencies have reaffirmed their dedication to protecting national security and have called on all personnel, particularly those in sensitive positions, to stay alert and promptly report any suspicious activities.
