A shocking video from Peterborough, Ontario, has gone viral, showing a group of young Canadian men racially harassing an Indian couple in a mall parking lot. The disturbing footage, recorded by the victims, shows the men shouting profanities, racial slurs, and even threatening physical violence.

The confrontation occurred on July 29 in the parking lot of Lansdowne Place Mall. In the video, three young men in a pickup truck can be seen taunting the couple with insults like “Big nose” and “Fing immigrant**.” When the Indian man attempts to record the vehicle’s license plate, one of the men responds with, “Do you want me to get out of the car and fing kill you?**”

One individual even exited the vehicle and began performing obscene gestures, including humping the couple’s car, while the group continued to harass and intimidate them. The victims also allege that their vehicle was damaged during the incident.

The video, originally posted by the couple on Facebook, quickly spread across social media, sparking outrage over rising anti-immigrant sentiment in Canada. “A man in Canada verbally attacked an Indian couple outside a mall, using racial slurs. There’s a growing sentiment of hostility toward Indian immigrants in Canada,” an X (formerly Twitter) user commented while sharing the video.

Police Respond, Arrest Made

In a press release, Peterborough Police confirmed that an 18-year-old from the City of Kawartha Lakes has been arrested in connection with the incident. The suspect, whose name has not been disclosed, has been charged with uttering threats to cause death or bodily harm.

The accused has been released on an undertaking and is scheduled to appear in court on September 16, 2025.

“Anybody who has seen the video in this case will understand that that type of behaviour is not acceptable in our community, nor any community,” said Chief Stuart Betts of the Peterborough Police Service.

He further encouraged people to report hate-based incidents, emphasizing that such behavior does not reflect the values of their city.
