Russia shot down more than 120 Ukrainian drones during the night: Defence Ministry

Russian air defense forces reported the downing of approximately 120 Ukrainian drones overnight, according to Russia’s Defense Ministry.

“From 20:00 (1700 GMT) on August 9 to 06:10 Moscow time (0310 GMT) on August 10, air defense units intercepted and destroyed 121 fixed-wing Ukrainian unmanned aerial vehicles,” the ministry stated in a release.

Additionally, the ministry noted that over 34 drones were shot down on Sunday, between 8:30 a.m. (0530 GMT) and 3 p.m. (1200 GMT), including one in the Moscow Region, as per reports from Xinhua news agency.

The governor of the Saratov Region reported on Telegram that one individual was killed due to debris from a downed drone.

In a related development, the Ukrainian Air Force announced on Sunday that Russia had launched an overnight assault involving 100 combat and decoy drones, with air defense systems successfully intercepting 70 of them.

On August 4, 2025, Russian air defense forces thwarted a significant drone attack aimed at the transport and energy infrastructure of the Volgograd region overnight, as stated by regional authorities.

“There were no casualties,” Volgograd Governor Andrey Bocharov mentioned in a social media update.

Bocharov also indicated that debris from the intercepted drones caused damage to a high-voltage power line, leading to power outages in the town of Ilovlya and surrounding areas. Emergency repair teams were sent to restore electricity.

In Frolovo, a fire broke out at a technical facility at the Archeda railway station, resulting in temporary train suspensions while explosive ordnance disposal teams dealt with an unexploded drone that had landed on the tracks.
