17 injured as slab collapses at Nagpur temple construction site

More than 15 individuals were injured when part of a structure under construction collapsed while a gate was being built on the route from Khaparkheda to Koradi Temple in Nagpur.

The incident occurred during work conducted by the Nagpur Metropolitan Region Development Authority (NMRDA) for the Koradi temple. Initially, there were concerns that some workers might be trapped, but no fatalities have been reported thus far.

Officials stated that 15 to 16 individuals suffered minor injuries and have been transported to hospitals for treatment. Debris is currently being cleared with machinery.

A local witness, Ratnadeep Rangari, reported, “We rescued 9 individuals. They have injuries and have been taken to hospitals. People fell when the slab collapsed, and they were covered in blood.”

Sanjay Meena, the Metropolitan Commissioner of NMRDA, commented, “15 to 16 individuals were injured. There are no serious injuries. They are currently in the hospital. The construction work for the Koradi temple was ongoing at this site. Contractors working under NMRDA were involved. The cause of the incident can only be determined after a thorough investigation. We will conduct a detailed inquiry. No fatalities have been reported so far.”

Inspector Krupal Mule from the 5 Battalion NDRF stated, “When our team from the 5 Battalion NDRF arrived, the structure had completely collapsed. We were informed that everyone working at the site was injured, but all were rescued. No one was found trapped. We first conducted a physical search, followed by a canine search. So far, it appears that no one is trapped, but we need to clear the debris before making any further comments. It is suggested that the ongoing construction work and vibrations from the equipment caused the collapse. There is a pile of debris approximately 4 to 5 feet high here.”

Nagpur’s Joint Commissioner of Police, Navinchandra Reddy, stated, “Debris is being cleared. Approximately 15 injured individuals have been taken to the hospital, and all are stable.
