Union Home Minister Amit Shah also conveyed warm greetings to the nation for Raksha Bandhan, a festival that honors the unbreakable bond of love and trust shared between siblings.

In a post on X, Shah remarked, “Heartfelt best wishes to all countrymen on the sacred festival of ‘Raksha Bandhan,’ which celebrates the enduring bond of love, trust, and commitment to protection between brothers and sisters. I pray to God that this festival brings joy and enthusiasm into everyone’s life.”

Likewise, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh extended his wishes for the occasion, underscoring the festival’s importance beyond the traditional rakhi thread.

He shared on X, “Heartfelt best wishes to all of you on the sacred occasion of Raksha Bandhan. This festival represents not only the purity of the rakhi thread but also a commitment to honor, protect, and ensure the happiness and prosperity of our sisters. May this festival, a symbol of the love between brothers and sisters, further enhance the spirit of protection within us—that is my prayer to God.”

Raksha Bandhan is a traditional Hindu festival that celebrates the love and bond between brothers and sisters. On this day, sisters tie a Rakhi around their brother’s wrists, and in return, brothers present gifts as a token of love and care for their sisters.

Rakhi signifies a promise of protection. On Raksha Bandhan, brothers vow to safeguard their sisters from any harm.

This year, Raksha Bandhan is being observed on August 9.

Raksha Bandhan is a festival deeply embedded in Indian culture and has been celebrated for centuries. References to sisters tying a rakhi around their brothers’ wrists for their protection can be found in Hindu religious scriptures.
