Three CRPF jawans killed, eight injured as vehicle falls into gorge in J&K’s Udhampur

Udhampur: On Thursday, Three personnel from the CRPF lost their lives and eight others sustained injuries, some of which are severe, after the vehicle they were in fell into a deep gorge in the Basantgarh region of Udhampur district, Jammu and Kashmir.

According to officials, the CRPF vehicle was on its way to a destination in the mountainous area when it veered off the road and tumbled into the gorge in the Kandva–Basantgarh region.

Following the incident, security forces, local administration, and residents initiated a rescue operation.

All injured individuals were transported to a nearby hospital, where three of the wounded CRPF personnel later died from their injuries.

Reports indicate that eight others are receiving medical care, with some being described as critically ill by doctors.

Union Minister Dr. Jitendra Singh expressed his concern on X, stating, “It is distressing to hear about the road accident involving a CRPF vehicle in the Kandva–Basantgarh area. The vehicle was transporting several courageous CRPF jawans.”

“I have just spoken with DC Ms. Saloni Rai, who is actively overseeing the situation and keeping me informed. Rescue efforts have been promptly initiated. Local residents have stepped up to help. We are ensuring all possible assistance,” he further stated.

Sources mentioned that the critically injured CRPF personnel might be transferred to the Army hospital in Udhampur.
