Congress leader Rahul Gandhi has made serious allegations of voter fraud in the recently held 2024 Lok Sabha elections, claiming that the Election Commission of India (ECI) colluded with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) to manipulate the results. Speaking at a press conference held at Indira Bhawan in Delhi, the Leader of Opposition stated that the Congress party’s suspicions were confirmed after observing irregularities in Maharashtra, where he alleged the assembly election was “stolen” from them.
He pointed out that the ECI’s refusal to provide machine-readable voter lists further strengthened their belief of foul play and collusion with the ruling party. Referring specifically to the Mahadevapura assembly seat in Karnataka, Rahul Gandhi claimed that out of 6.5 lakh total votes, over 1 lakh were allegedly fraudulent. The Congress party’s internal research, he said, uncovered duplicate voters, invalid addresses, and bulk voter registrations in the constituency.
Calling the alleged voter fraud a crime against the Constitution, Gandhi warned that this malpractice was being carried out on a large scale across the country. He further argued that the extent of this “vote chori” may have significantly altered the election outcome. According to him, Prime Minister Narendra Modi only needed to manipulate around 25 seats to maintain power, and BJP reportedly won 25 seats with a margin of fewer than 33,000 votes in the general elections.
The Congress leader’s remarks signal a heightened political confrontation as the party steps up its campaign against the ECI and BJP, demanding accountability and transparency in India’s democratic processes.
