In a third incident of racial violence against Indians in Ireland this month, a six-year-old Indian girl was brutally attacked on Monday in Waterford, as reported by local media.
Nia Naveen, the daughter of Anupa Achuthan and KS Naveen from Kerala, was allegedly punched in the face, struck in her private areas with a bicycle, and hit on the neck.
Her mother informed the Irish Mirror that the assailants used the ‘F-word’ and shouted, “dirty Indian go back to your country” at the young girl. This incident follows a series of racial attacks on Indians that occurred in July and August.
According to Anupa, her daughter was playing outside their home in the Kilbarry area of Waterford City on Monday. While Anupa was tending to her 10-month-old child, Nia expressed a desire to play outside around 7:30 pm. After a while, she returned home, and as Anupa recounted to local media, “She was very upset, she started crying. She couldn’t even talk; she was so scared.”
Nia was attacked by a group of boys aged between 12 and 14, along with a girl. One of the boys even struck her in the private areas, punched her, and pulled her hair.
“I feel so sad for her. I could not protect her. I never expected that such an incident would happen. I thought she would be safe here,” Anupa shared with the local daily.
It is important to note that the Indian family has resided in Ireland for eight years and recently obtained Irish citizenship.
According to reports, the Irish police are currently conducting a criminal investigation into this racial attack.
