Airports throughout India are on heightened alert due to warning of potential terrorist attack

New Delhi: All airports throughout India are currently on heightened alert due to a warning regarding a possible terror threat. The Bureau of Civil Aviation Security (BCAS) has instructed all relevant parties to bolster security measures at airports in light of a potential threat posed by terrorists or ‘anti-social elements’ from September 22 to October 2, 2025.

The security division of the civil aviation ministry released an advisory on August 4, urging for the immediate enhancement of surveillance across all aviation facilities. This encompasses airports, airstrips, helipads, flying schools, and training institutes, where upgraded security protocols are to be enacted without delay.

Airports on heightened alert
“Considering the recent information received from the central security agency regarding a potential threat from anti-social elements or terrorist organizations during the period of September 22-October 02, 2025, all stakeholders at every airport are instructed to improve security measures at all civil aviation facilities, including airports, airstrips, airfields, air force stations, and helipads,” BCAS stated in an advisory.

As reported by news agency sources, the BCAS advisory is founded on specific intelligence concerning the activities of a Pakistani terror group.

BASC has mandated all aviation stakeholders to maintain close collaboration with local police, the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF), the Intelligence Bureau (IB), and other pertinent agencies. The advisory stresses that any intelligence inputs or alerts must be communicated promptly to all relevant parties.

Rigorous ID checks for all personnel, contractors, and visitors
Security staff at all aviation facilities have been instructed to stay on high alert around the clock, with increased patrolling around terminals, parking areas, perimeters, and other sensitive locations. Airports are also required to strengthen security on the city side in collaboration with local police forces.

The advisory is applicable to both domestic and international airline operators, requiring rigorous security inspections for all cargo and mail prior to being loaded onto commercial flights. Enhanced screening is mandatory for packages at every airport, irrespective of their destination.

In addition to other measures, the security agency has stated that there must be stringent ID verification for all personnel, contractors, and visitors. All CCTV systems are required to be fully operational and continuously monitored.

This increased state of alert has been conveyed to state police departments, airport authorities, and airlines to guarantee thorough security readiness throughout the aviation industry.
