On Tuesday, the Election Commission announced that since the Bihar draft voter list was released on August 1, no political party has contacted them regarding the addition or removal of names from the rolls.
The draft roll will remain accessible until September 1 for claims and objections, allowing parties and individuals to request the inclusion of eligible citizens who were omitted and the exclusion of those deemed ineligible.
The EC reported that from 3 PM on August 1 to 3 PM on August 5 (Tuesday), no booth-level agents appointed by any parties have reached out to the election authorities concerning the claims and objections process.
“The Election Commission is consistently emphasizing that no eligible voter should be overlooked and no ineligible voter should be included. Please submit your claims and objections regarding the draft voter list published on August 1.
“Up to this point, no political party has submitted any claims or objections,” noted an official from the poll authority.
According to an EC bulletin, 2864 individuals have contacted them thus far for the inclusion or removal of names.
The draft list is part of the ongoing special intensive revision of the Bihar voter list by the EC, which is currently facing protests from opposition parties who argue that this process will prevent millions of eligible citizens from exercising their voting rights due to a lack of documentation.
The EC has reiterated that no eligible citizen will be excluded from the electoral rolls.
The final electoral roll is set to be published on September 30.
