In a bold move escalating global tensions, U.S. President Donald Trump announced on Friday that he has ordered two nuclear submarines to be deployed near Russian waters. This decision came in direct response to what he called “highly provocative statements” made by former Russian President Dmitry Medvedev.
Taking to his social media platform Truth Social, Trump wrote:
“Based on the highly provocative statements of the Former President of Russia, Dmitry Medvedev… I have ordered two Nuclear Submarines to be positioned in the appropriate regions, just in case these foolish and inflammatory statements are more than just that.”
Trump warned that words can carry “unintended consequences” and added,
“I hope this will not be one of those instances.”

Although Trump is not currently in office, the statement has raised eyebrows globally, especially due to its military undertone and the nuclear element. Analysts speculate whether this is part of a political maneuver or a symbolic show of strength, especially as Trump is actively campaigning for a 2024 comeback.
Medvedev, known for making extreme remarks on Western countries and the Ukraine war, recently made veiled nuclear threats during a press conference, sparking widespread concern in diplomatic circles.
The White House has not yet responded to Trump’s remarks, but geopolitical observers warn that such public statements, even from a former president, may impact U.S. foreign policy perceptions.
