Prime Minister Narendra Modi, during his address at the ‘Aadi Thiruvathirai’ Festival in Tamil Nadu, stated that Operation Sindoor has compelled the world to acknowledge India’s strength and resolve. The operation, launched on May 7 in response to the Pahalgam terror attack that claimed 26 lives, ignited a new spirit and instilled confidence across the nation.
PM Modi emphasized, “Today’s India considers its security paramount. Operation Sindoor has made it clear that there is no safe haven for India’s enemies or terrorists.”
He connected this modern spirit to India’s historical legacy, drawing inspiration from the Chola Empire’s powerful navy and military might. Modi said that to achieve the vision of a ‘Viksit Bharat’ (Developed India), the country must strengthen its defence forces and explore new opportunities, embracing both development and heritage (Vikas Bhi, Virasat Bhi).
During the event at the UNESCO World Heritage Site, Gangaikonda Cholapuram Temple, the Prime Minister released a commemorative coin honouring Raja Rajendra Chola I, highlighting the Chola dynasty’s contribution to India’s cultural and economic prosperity.
PM Modi also noted initiatives like the Kashi-Tamil Sangamam and Saurashtra-Tamil Sangamam, which strengthen India’s cultural unity. Wearing traditional Tamil attire, he was warmly welcomed by locals during his roadshow in Tiruchirappalli.
The Aadi Thiruvathirai Festival, celebrating the Tamil Shaiva Bhakti tradition, coincided with Rajendra Chola’s birth star, making this year’s event even more significant.
