Alarming Rise in Heart Attacks Among Youth in Gujarat: Over 1,000 Deaths in a Year

Gujarat is witnessing an alarming surge in heart attacks among young people, including children and adolescents. According to official data, more than 1,000 individuals between the ages of 11 and 25 died due to heart attacks in the state last year. The growing trend of cardiac incidents among youth has deeply concerned health experts, families, and authorities.

In just the first seven months of this year, multiple shocking cases of heart attacks have been reported involving children and teens. Disturbingly, data from the past two years shows that 262 infants under the age of one also suffered cardiac arrests or heart attacks.

Doctors have attributed this disturbing rise to significant lifestyle changes, poor dietary habits, increased screen time, and heightened stress levels among children and adolescents. Experts urge families to encourage healthier habits, disciplined routines, and early medical check-ups to mitigate risks.

Notable cases include 8-year-old Gargi from Ahmedabad, who collapsed in her classroom, and a 15-year-old boy named Laxman, who died suddenly while eating. In Kutch, 20-year-old Mahesh died while drinking tea, and in Rajkot, 13-year-old Bhavesh and 20-year-old Yuvrajsingh Yadav also succumbed to sudden cardiac arrests. Surat reported five heart attack deaths just this month, including a 14-year-old girl from Parvat village.

Officials say the gap between heart attack rates in people under and over 50 is closing rapidly, with a 10% year-over-year increase in heart attacks among those under 25. In response, the Gujarat government has launched preventive initiatives, including training school teachers, college professors, and police officers in CPR (Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation). These efforts aim to improve immediate response and save lives in case of sudden cardiac arrest.

The growing crisis underscores the urgent need for widespread public health awareness, especially among younger populations, regarding heart health and early warning signs.
