CM Nitish Kumar refers to Tejashwi Yadav as ‘child’ during the SIR dispute in the Bihar assembly

High drama unfolded in the Bihar Assembly on Wednesday after Chief Minister Nitish Kumar intervened during the statement made by opposition leader Tejashwi Yadav regarding the special intensive revision of electoral rolls, which sparked a heated exchange. The situation escalated, prompting Speaker Nand Kishor Yadav to adjourn the proceedings until 2 pm, just 30 minutes after the House convened at 11 am.

Yadav, who donned a black T-shirt in protest against the Election Commission’s actions in the state, was permitted by the Speaker to address the issue that had sparked protests both inside and outside the House on Tuesday. In his remarks, the RJD leader stated, “We are not against the special intensive revision itself, but the manner in which the Election Commission is executing this exercise is questionable.

Why is it being done so late, with elections approaching? They could have carried it out months ago. Only two to three percent of voters in the state may possess the documents that the EC is requesting. What is this fear of fraudulent voters? Does the EC imply that fraudulent voters are responsible for making Narendra Modi the Prime Minister and Nitish Kumar the Chief Minister?”

The former deputy chief minister also pointed out that the EC has not mentioned any foreign nationals on the voters’ list in its affidavit to the Supreme Court. He questioned what would happen to the nearly 4.5 crore residents of the state who are registered voters and return during elections from where they are currently living.

Meanwhile, CM Nitish, appearing displeased with the discussion on the matter, stood up to intervene.

“You are a child. You know nothing about these issues. Only three days remain in this final session of the House. Let it conduct its legislative business. Whatever nonsense you wish to say, you can do so freely during the elections,” Kumar remarked.

“When his (Yadav’s) parents were chief ministers, they accomplished nothing for women, Muslims, or any other group.

Bihar is Being Controlled Remotely from Delhi: Tejashwi

Criticizing the state government, RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav stated that the state is being “controlled remotely” from Delhi, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah issuing “orders” for the voter roll revision.

“The manner in which the state is being managed from Delhi through remote control, with Prime Minister Amit Shah at the helm, they are the ones giving the directives. The SIR is also being executed under their instructions by the Election Commission. Previously, voters would select the government, but now the situation has reversed, with the government selecting its voters,” the Leader of Opposition in Bihar remarked during a press conference following the assembly session.

He reiterated his assertion that Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar is unfit to govern, claiming that the CM is unaware of the proceedings in the Assembly.

“We also had a meeting with the Speaker, and we expressed our concerns as the CM had stood up while I was addressing what he wanted. Everyone in the assembly is aware of the discussions taking place, but the CM seems oblivious; he speaks whatever comes to his mind. The CM is no longer capable of leading the government,” Yadav stated.
