A disturbing murder investigation is currently underway in Maharashtra’s Palghar district, where a woman is accused of killing her husband with the assistance of her lover, reminiscent of the plot in the Bollywood film ‘Drishyam’. The man’s body was discovered buried within his own residence, while his wife remains at large.

The victim, Vijay Chouhan (34), resided in a housing society located in the Gangnipada area of Nallasopara, a remote suburb of Mumbai. He lived with his 28-year-old wife Chaman Devi and their child. Vijay had been unaccounted for since Sunday night.

As per Senior Police Inspector Jitendra Vankoti, Vijay’s brother, who resides in Bilalpada, reached out to him requesting financial assistance. However, Vijay’s phone was unreachable, and he could not be located. “Their sister-in-law mentioned he was working on the Kurla building. Subsequently, her phone also went silent. She too had vanished,” he informed news agency ANI.

After failing to locate him at home, his brother filed a missing person report with the police on Sunday night. The following morning, while searching for him, Vijay’s brothers visited his residence and observed newly installed tiles. They became suspicious as the color of the new tiles did not match the existing ones. Upon removing the new tiles, they detected an unusual odor and promptly alerted the police. Their worst fears were confirmed when authorities discovered their brother’s body buried beneath the tiles.

Forensic specialists and local tehsildars were summoned, and the corpse was extracted and transported to the hospital for further examination. They subsequently exhumed Chouhan’s remains.

A friend of the deceased, Safruddin Ansari, stated that Vijay’s brothers had been visiting his shop for the past two days in search of their missing sibling. “He has been in contact with me for the last 10-15 years and was a very kind person… His brothers suspect that Vijay’s wife may have fled with a neighbor,” he remarked.

Authorities believe that Vijay was killed by his wife and their neighbor, Monu. The two are reportedly involved in a romantic relationship and are now the main suspects in the investigation. Additionally, it is suspected that another individual from the same neighborhood may have participated in the crime.

The woman has been unaccounted for over the past two days. The exact circumstances of how the pair murdered the victim and their motives remain unclear.
