Cong issues a notice for adjournment; requests a discussion on Pahalgam & Operation Sindoor

New Delhi: On Monday, Congress whip in the Lok Sabha, Manickam Tagore, submitted an Adjournment Motion notice in the Lok Sabha, while Congress Rajya Sabha MP Randeep Surjewala filed a Suspension of Business notice under Rule 267 to address the Pahalgam terror attack and Operation Sindoor in the Upper House of Parliament.

In his notice to Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, Tagore stated, “I am giving notice of my intention to move an adjournment motion to discuss a matter of urgent and serious national importance.” He called on the Speaker to permit a discussion regarding the alleged security failures that contributed to the Pahalgam terror attack and the foreign policy errors following Operation Sindoor.

The notice specified: “Matter: Significant security lapses that resulted in the Pahalgam terror attack, the dubious handling of foreign policy in the wake of Operation Sindoor, the recent assertion by the US President that five Indian fighter jets were downed, and the notable silence of the Hon’ble Prime Minister despite 24 public statements from the US President claiming credit for India’s ceasefire.”

In outlining the reasons, Tagore highlighted:

  1. The Pahalgam attack, which resulted in the deaths of 26 civilians, revealed critical intelligence and security shortcomings.
  2. Operation Sindoor was carried out with valor by Indian forces, and the House honors their courage.
  3. The government has not effectively countered the repeated assertions by the US President that he facilitated the ceasefire under trade pressure.
  4. Trump’s remark regarding five Indian jets being shot down remains unaddressed—regardless, it requires clarification.
  5. The Prime Minister’s silence is undermining trust and harming India’s diplomatic reputation.
  6. The Chief of Defence Staff’s remarks on Operation Sindoor made abroad, without involving Parliament, raise concerns about accountability.

Tagore urged the Speaker to suspend all other business to deliberate on this pressing issue.

In the meantime, Randeep Surjewala has submitted a notice under Rule 267 in the Rajya Sabha, requesting the suspension of Zero Hour and other scheduled business to address the Pahalgam attack and India’s response via Operation Sindoor.

The Monsoon Session of Parliament commences today and is anticipated to be tumultuous, as the Opposition INDIA bloc intends to raise several issues, including the Pahalgam attack, Operation Sindoor, Bihar’s SIR exercise, and the Air India 171 crash. This session will run until August 21, with a recess from August 12 to 18, comprising 21 sittings over a span of 32 days.
