WTC Finals to Remain in England Till 2031, Confirms ICC

The International Cricket Council (ICC) has officially announced that England will continue to host the World Test Championship (WTC) Finals until 2031. In a press release issued on Sunday, July 20, the ICC confirmed that the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) has been granted the hosting rights for the 2027, 2029, and 2031 editions of the tournament.

The decision comes after a consistent track record by the ECB in successfully organizing the previous WTC Finals. Since its inception, the WTC Final has been hosted exclusively in England — Southampton in 2021, The Oval in 2023, and Lord’s Cricket Ground scheduled for 2025.

“The Board also confirmed the awarding of hosting rights for the ICC World Test Championship Finals for the 2027, 2029, and 2031 editions to the England and Wales Cricket Board, following a successful track record in hosting recent finals,” said the ICC in its official statement.

One of the main reasons behind the selection of England is its favorable early summer window, which offers logistical ease and optimal playing conditions. These factors, combined with the ECB’s proven capabilities, played a key role in extending their hosting tenure.

There had been previous interest from the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) to bring the WTC Final to Indian soil. However, with this latest confirmation, such a move now appears unlikely in the near future.

This announcement was part of the ICC Annual Conference, where several key decisions were taken about future ICC events and hosting rights.
