Patna: Five armed individuals entered a hospital in Bihar, nonchalantly walked into a patient’s room, shot him multiple times, and fled the scene. This is not a scene from a film. This is the grim reality of Bihar. The hospital’s CCTV footage recorded the five assailants drawing their weapons, opening the door to the cabin, and then making their escape. The victim, Chandan Mishra, succumbed to his injuries during treatment.
Mishra, a notorious criminal with numerous murder charges against him, was released on parole for medical reasons. He was receiving treatment at Paras Hospital in Patna, where the shooting occurred this morning. Authorities suspect that a rival gang orchestrated this shocking attack.
“A criminal named Chandan Mishra, from Buxar district, has multiple murder cases filed against him. He was moved from Buxar to Bhagalpur jail. Chandan was on parole and admitted to Paras Hospital for medical care. The rival gang is responsible for the shooting. He is currently receiving treatment, and with assistance from the Buxar police, we are working to identify the members of the rival Chandan Sheru gang,” stated Kartikay Sharma, Senior Superintendent of Police, during a press briefing following the incident. Mishra later died from his injuries. Authorities are also looking into the possibility of involvement from the hospital’s security personnel in the incident.
This hospital shooting has once again highlighted the deteriorating law and order situation in the capital of Bihar, which has recently made headlines due to several murder cases. Among the victims are businessman Gopal Khemka, BJP leader Surendra Kewat, and lawyer Jitendra Mahato.
The JDU-BJP government led by Nitish Kumar is facing criticism as the increasing crime rate has provided the Opposition parties, RJD and Congress, with ammunition to attack the state government just months before the state elections. In response to the hospital shooting, RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav has raised concerns about the safety of citizens in Bihar, asking, “Is anyone safe anywhere in the state? Government-backed criminals invaded the ICU and shot a patient. Is anyone safe in Bihar? Has this ever happened before 2005?” he asked.
Deputy Chief Minister Vijay Sinha has assured that the criminals would be caught. “Such an incident is unfortunate. It will be thoroughly investigated and the criminal will not be spared. The Chief Minister of Bihar has said the criminal will be caught and strictly punished.”
