A major plane disaster was narrowly avoided at Patna’s Jay Prakash Narayan International Airport on the night of July 15 (Tuesday) when Indigo flight 6E-2482, arriving from Delhi, barely escaped a failed landing attempt.
As reported by News18, the aircraft, which was carrying 173 passengers, was unable to land safely due to the short runway and had to abort the landing.
The pilot quickly decided to take off again near the runway and, after performing a go-around maneuver in the air four times, successfully landed the plane.
Reports indicate that around 9 pm on Tuesday, the aircraft overshot the designated landing point slightly due to the short runway, leading the pilot to conclude that a safe landing on the first attempt would be challenging.
According to News18, eyewitnesses and aviation experts confirmed that the runway is often regarded as one of the more difficult ones in the country because of its limited length, which posed a considerable risk during landing.
In a previous crash, over 60 individuals lost their lives. Due to adverse weather conditions in Patna that morning, after an unsuccessful landing attempt, the aircraft lost control mid-air, resulting in a wobble before crashing in the nearby Gardanibagh. The plane broke into two upon impact.
