On Tuesday, the University Grants Commission established a fact-finding committee to investigate the suicide of a 20-year-old student at a college in Balasore district, Odisha. The young woman, who self-immolated outside the principal’s office while claiming that no action was taken regarding her allegations of sexual harassment by a teacher, passed away early in the morning.

As per a circular released by the University Grants Commission (UGC), a fact-finding committee is set to investigate the incident that occurred at Fakir Mohan (Autonomous) College on July 12 and will recommend measures to avert such occurrences in the future.

The committee will consist of four members, which includes a chairperson, two additional members, and a coordinating officer. Prof Raj Kumar Mittal from Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University in New Delhi will serve as the chairperson.
