Mouni Roy has officially commenced filming for her latest project, The Wives. Directed by the renowned filmmaker Madhur Bhandarkar, this film aims to delve into the untold narratives of Bollywood’s star wives. On Wednesday, the actress took to social media to share her enthusiasm about working with the four-time National Film Award-winning director.
On Instagram, Mouni posted a behind-the-scenes image from the Muhurat of The Wives. In the photo, she is seen alongside the director, holding the film’s clapboard. In her caption, she expressed, “Day 1 on this new film I’m truly excited about, grateful to be creating with the maestro himself Madhur Bhandarkar. Thrilled for the journey ahead #TheWives.”

Before long, the comment section was inundated with responses from fans and celebrities alike. Mouni’s close friend and actress Disha Patani congratulated her on this new venture, stating, “Congratulations my mon kill it.” Actress Sriti Jha also chimed in with, “Congratulations.” An Instagram user commented, “Congratulations Mon! So excited to see you.”
In addition to Mouni, the film boasts an impressive ensemble cast that includes Sonali Kulkarni, Regina Cassandra, Rahul Bhatt, Saurabh Sachdeva, Arjan Bajwa, and Freddy Daruwala.
Discussing the film, Bhandarkar remarked in a media statement, “With The Wives, I aim to uncover yet another glamorous aspect of society and reveal what genuinely lies beneath. This film will provide a bold, unapologetic examination of the secrets, struggles, and strengths of women who are often visible but seldom heard.”
Additionally, the film signifies Bhandarkar’s second partnership with producer Pranav Jain of PJ Motion Pictures, following the success of their previous project, India Lockdown, which addressed the emotional impact of the COVID-19 pandemic.
The official release date for The Wives has not yet been disclosed by the producers.
Moreover, Mouni will also appear in the romantic comedy, Hai Jawaani Toh Ishq Hona Hai, alongside Varun Dhawan, Mrunal Thakur, and Pooja Hegde. Directed by David Dhawan, it is set to be released in April of next year.
