The Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB) has not yet submitted its preliminary report regarding the AI 171 plane crash to the Ministry of Civil Aviation and other pertinent authorities. This report will be derived from the bureau’s initial evaluations and findings collected during the early stages of the investigation.

Earlier media reports suggested that the AAIB had already provided a preliminary report to the relevant authorities; however, senior government officials within the Civil Aviation Ministry have refuted this assertion.

The forthcoming report is likely to detail significant observations concerning flight data, crew actions, weather conditions, and mechanical performance. The AAIB is anticipated to persist in its thorough investigation to ascertain the precise cause of the crash and to propose safety measures for the future.

The Air India flight AI 171, which was en route to London, crashed shortly after taking off from Ahmedabad airport on June 12. According to a report by Bloomberg, it may have suffered a dual engine failure, which critically compromised its ability to stay in the air. Although the AAIB has not officially verified this information, sources familiar with the investigation have indicated that this possibility is being taken very seriously.

Simulations carried out by Air India pilots, who replicated the aircraft’s flight parameters—including scenarios with the landing gear down and wing flaps retracted—did not result in a crash, thus redirecting attention to a possible technical malfunction.

An initial analysis of the wreckage has indicated that the flaps and slats, which are essential for lift during takeoff, were properly extended. Investigators suspect that the pilots, who sadly lost their lives in the incident, transmitted a Mayday distress call shortly after takeoff. As reported by Bloomberg, there was only a brief interval of approximately 15 seconds between the distress call and the aircraft’s collision with the ground.

The AAIB is actively pursuing its thorough investigation, with a comprehensive report anticipated in the upcoming weeks. The preliminary findings are expected to lay the groundwork for determining the underlying cause and suggesting additional safety protocols to avert similar occurrences in the future.
