BJP MP from Mandi and actress Kangana Ranaut, together with Himachal Pradesh Leader of Opposition and former Chief Minister Jairam Thakur, visited the areas in Mandi district affected by the cloudburst on Sunday, engaging with local residents.
Kangana Ranaut stated, “The central government initiated immediate relief operations by deploying forces. At the local level, we supplied relief materials to the families impacted… Although the Prime Minister is currently abroad, he is kept informed about the situation here, and the central government has taken prompt action. As an MP, it is my responsibility to secure funding and communicate the on-ground realities to the government…” Kangana also toured the Thunag subdivision in Mandi district on Sunday, amidst significant destruction and loss of life caused by cloudbursts and flash floods resulting from heavy rainfall throughout Himachal Pradesh.
“In the aftermath of the cloudburst, Mandi is experiencing a flood-like scenario. Road access is critically compromised, especially in the Thunag region and surrounding areas. Nevertheless, our government and administration are vigilantly monitoring the situation, and relief operations are in progress. Efforts to restore road connectivity are underway. Our teams are present in every affected locality. We have established committees in the impacted areas, each led by a chairperson,” Ranaut remarked.
Officials report that Himachal Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu is directly supervising the relief efforts and has guaranteed complete support from the state government to the families in need.
During the visit, the SDRF team conducted a survey of the affected regions and identified vulnerable individuals who urgently require assistance. Relief supplies, including essential kits and medical supplies, were distributed to the impacted families as part of the immediate response initiative.
The team also evaluated the health conditions of several villagers and provided necessary medications on-site to those in need of prompt care.
Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu has instructed the Mandi district administration to carry out relief and rescue operations with urgency in the areas impacted by the disaster, making certain that assistance is provided to everyone in need.
The regions that have suffered the most include the Thunag subdivision, Karsog Gohar subdivision, and Dharampur subdivision, according to DC Mandi, Apoorv Devgan.
