India crushes England by 336 Runs in Birmingham, Levels Series 1-1 with Historic Win at Edgbaston

In a remarkable display of batting, captain Shubman Gill led the charge while pacer Akash Deep achieved a ten-wicket haul, marking a total team effort as India broke their winless streak in Birmingham, clinching a 336-run victory over England in the second Test on the final day this Sunday.

This victory levels the five-match series at 1-1 for India. After enduring seven losses and a draw, they have finally secured a win at Edgbaston Stadium.

England commenced the second session with Jamie Smith not out at 32*, facing a challenging chase of 608 runs with the score at 153/6.

Joined by Chris Woakes at the crease, Smith remained unfazed by the pressure, aggressively targeting spinners Ravindra Jadeja and Washington Sundar. He reached his fifty off 73 balls, hitting seven fours.

In the 49th over, Smith struck Sundar for two sixes and a four.

However, before England could cross the 200-run threshold, they lost the seasoned Woakes for just seven runs. A poorly executed lofted shot was easily caught by Mohammed Siraj at mid-wicket, leaving England at 199/7 in 52.1 overs.

England managed to reach the 200-run mark in 52.3 overs.

In the 55th over, Smith attempted to dominate Akash with two consecutive sixes, but as he aimed for a third, he was caught by Washington at deep square leg for 88 off 99 balls, including nine fours and four sixes. This marked Akash’s first five-wicket haul in Test cricket, leaving England at 226/8 in 55.4 overs.

A spectacular one-handed catch by Siraj at short mid-wicket dismissed Josh Tongue for a mere two runs. Ravindra Jadeja claimed his first wicket of the match, pushing England down to 246/9 in 63.5 overs.

The resistance from Carse came to an end as Akash secured the final wicket, with Gill taking the catch. England was all out for 271 in 68.1 overs, falling short by 336 runs, despite Carse’s solid contribution of 38 runs.

Akash Deep’s impressive figures of 6/99 highlighted his memorable ten-wicket haul, while Siraj, Prasidh Krishna, Jadeja, and Sundar each took one wicket.
