Host and competitor Neeraj Chopra wins inaugural NC Classic international javelin event

Neeraj Chopra clinched victory at the Neeraj Chopra Classic in Bengaluru with a top throw of 86.18m, achieved on his third attempt.

Kenya’s Julius Yego secured the second position, while Sri Lanka’s Rumesh Pathirage rounded out the podium in third place. Neeraj had a shaky start, recording a foul on his first attempt. However, he quickly regained his form in the second round, launching a throw well beyond the 80m mark.

After the fifth round, Neeraj maintained his lead with a throw of 84.07m, despite having a foul in his fourth attempt.Earlier, he had taken back the lead from Sri Lanka’s Rumesh Pathirage with a remarkable throw of 86.18m on his third try.

Neeraj also established his lead in the second round with a throw of 82.99m.

The throwing order for the Neeraj Chopra Classic 2025 was announced earlier. India’s Sahil Silwal kicked things off, while Neeraj Chopra took the final turn at the 12th position. Each participant was introduced to the audience, with the loudest cheers reserved for Neeraj Chopra. The Indian star appeared visibly moved by the warm welcome he received.
