Following his second Test century during the ongoing tour of England, India’s Test captain Shubman Gill has emphasized that the team aims not only to win the Test match but also to secure the series.
Gill shone in the second Test against England in Birmingham on Wednesday, showcasing a mix of caution and aggression. At the end of Day 1, he concluded his innings with an unbeaten score of 114 runs off 216 balls, including 12 boundaries.
In a video shared by BCCI, Gill stated, “We definitely want to win this Test match and the series.”
Despite India losing wickets in quick succession, Gill continued to challenge England with his impeccable technique. He remained composed, consistently finding gaps to keep the runs flowing.
As India’s youngest Test captain, Gill executed a sweep shot against Root behind square to reach the boundary and then struck the ball to complete a memorable century in Birmingham. He became the fourth Indian captain to score centuries in his first two Tests, joining the ranks of Virat Kohli, Vijay Hazare, and Sunil Gavaskar.
Additionally, he joined the elite company of batting legends Dilip Vengsarkar, Rahul Dravid, and Mohammad Azharuddin by scoring hundreds in three consecutive Tests against England. He achieved his three-digit score with an impressive control rate of 96.5 percent, solidifying his dominance in Birmingham.
