Prime Minister Modi honors Kwame Nkrumah, the founding President of Ghana

On Thursday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited the Nkrumah Memorial Park in Accra, Ghana, where he paid homage to Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, the founding President of Ghana and a respected figure in the African independence movement.

Accompanied by Ghana’s Vice President, Prof. Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang, the Prime Minister laid a floral wreath and observed a moment of silence to honor Dr. Nkrumah’s enduring contributions to freedom, unity, and social justice.

This tribute from the Prime Minister underscores India’s profound respect for Ghana’s rich heritage and reinforces the strong ties of friendship and collaboration between the two nations.

Nkrumah’s influence reaches far beyond Ghana, as he was a vigorous advocate for African unity and inspired liberation movements throughout the continent. He firmly believed that a united Africa could effectively tackle the challenges posed by colonialism and neo-colonialism.

He was a co-founder of the Non-Aligned Movement, which consists of countries that are not officially aligned with or opposed to any significant power bloc, thereby highlighting his dedication to global collaboration.
