Farmers are falling further into debt, with no assurance of Minimum Support Price: Rahul Gandhi

On Thursday, Rahul Gandhi, the Leader of the Opposition in Lok Sabha, claimed that farmers are falling deeper into debt each day. He said this system is quietly but steadily ‘killing’ farmers, while Modi ji, who vowed to ‘double’ their income, is preoccupied with his own public relations show.

In a post on X, he referenced a media report stating that 767 farmers in Maharashtra have committed suicide in just three months. ‘Think about it… in only 3 months, 767 farmers in Maharashtra have taken their own lives. Is this merely a statistic? No. These are 767 broken homes. 767 families that will never heal. And the government? Silent. Watching with apathy.’

Rahul Gandhi pointed out that ‘Farmers are sinking deeper into debt every day—seeds are costly, fertilizers are costly, diesel is costly… yet there is no assurance of MSP. When they ask for loan waivers, they are disregarded.’

He accused, ‘But those with billions? Their loans are easily forgiven by the Modi government. Just look at today’s news—Anil Ambani’s ₹48,000 crore SBI ‘fraud.’
